“Natural Capital” and Environmental Initiatives

The Musashi Paint Group values natural capital—natural factors such as water, air, soil, and biodiversity that benefit our business activities—as critical assets that serve as the core of a sustainable society.

We especially believe that chemical manufacturers are responsible to minimize its impact on natural capital across the entire life cycle, from extraction of natural resources to the manufacture of products and emission. Our group recognizes that natural capital is the foundation for the sustainability of our business, not merely an external environment. We are committed to fulfill our responsibilities to preserve and pass on Earth’s rich environment to the future generation.

Themes Addressed in Musashi Paint Group’s Environmental Initiatives

As environmental initiatives, we take actions for “environmental contributions”, such as the creation of environmentally conscious products and values with communities, leveraging our unique technologies, and “environmental preservation”, which are efforts made to reduce the environmental load from our corporate activities. These are the key challenges for environmental initiatives we aim to resolve at the Musashi Paint Group.

1. Strive to Create Environmentally Conscious Products

The Musashi Paint Group conducts business activities based on the purpose of “Enriching the World with Our Colors and Technology.” Such activities include contributions to environmental preservation, and our group recognizes that our utmost responsibility is to create environmentally conscious products. To strive to create environmentally conscious products, we are committed to ensure that

All of the products we sell in the market are environmentally-friendly
The products we create contribute to the reduction of environmental load by developing new paints that are distinctly different from conventional paints and by applying new techniques

and are developing the following products.

2. Strive to Create Value with Communities – Products that will Transform the Industrial Structure of Our Society –

Our group is committed to creating a sustainable society leveraging our products and technologies.

However, there are limitations to what one company can do by itself. But through partnerships with other companies that share common aspirations, we are certain that we can bring about many changes.

We will strive to change the current system while developing and offering paint products that accommodate such changes.

To strive to create value with communities through products that will transform the industrial structure of our society, we will

Become a company that can bring about change to society through co-creation

and are taking the following measures to achieve the above.

3. Strive to Achieve Environmental Preservation

Environmental impact is inevitable to some extent during paint manufacturing as there will be CO2 emissions and waste. To minimize our environmental impact, the Musashi Paint Group creates environmentally conscious products and takes actions for environmental preservation.

To strive to achieve environmental preservation, we are committed to

Achieve carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2050
Achieve Zero Waste to Landfill by 2030

The following are representative actions we are currently taking.

4. Strive for Chemical Substance Management

Chemical substance management is an important management system to ensure that our customers may continue to feel safe using the Musashi Paint Group’s products. The main focus of our activities is to prevent contamination with hazardous substances on people and the environment.

To strive for chemical substance management, we will

Develop, establish, and maintain a safe design & development system that adheres to relevant laws and regulations regarding chemical substances
Develop a system to appropriately share information to customers on chemical substances included in our products

and are taking actions to achieve the above.

Our group’s structure for chemical substance management are as shown below.
