A Day in the Life of the Production Department – Color Matching Section

【One-Day Feature】Supporting the Foundation of Paint Manufacturing: A Day as a Preparation Specialist

Musashi Paint Holdings Co., Ltd. is looking for new team members to join us.

Production Department – Color Matching Section Hiroshi Hayakawa

Please introduce yourself.

I was born in 2000 and joined the company in 2019. I’m originally from Saitama Prefecture. On my days off, I enjoy playing video games or going out in Tokyo.

What kind of work do you do at Musashi Paint?

The Color Matching Section consists of three main processes: Preparation, Color Matching, and Filling.
I am in charge of the Preparation process.

After completing my initial training, I gained experience in Filling and Color Matching, and I have now been working in Preparation for three years.

In our section, paint products manufactured during Preparation are checked and adjusted for color and texture during Color Matching, where samples are created. After that, the products are finished and packaged for shipment during Filling.

In the Preparation process, we use documents called “production slips,” which are similar to cooking recipes. Following these instructions, we accurately measure raw materials, add them to tanks, and mix them through agitation to produce paint.

The tanks and raw materials are heavy, and lifting is often required, so working safely is essential. It is also a physically demanding job. When the production volume increases, we need to work at a faster pace. However, rushing can lead to mistakes, so I always try to stay calm and focused, carefully checking measurements and procedures to ensure accuracy.

Now, let’s take a look at a typical day for Mr. Hayakawa, whose work requires both precision and physical strength!

【A Day in the Life】Daily Schedule

Before Work 6:00 – Wake up

After having breakfast, I leave home around 6:50 and commute by car while listening to music.

Morning 8:30 – Arrive at work

We start the day with Japanese radio exercises to prevent accidents by properly warming up our bodies.

After that, we attend the Color Matching Section’s morning meeting and individual process meetings to share information. Until 9:00, we conduct equipment inspections and cleaning.

Once that is finished, I prepare raw materials and begin the Preparation process. Depending on the day, I usually prepare about three products in the morning.

Lunch Break 12:00 – Lunch break

After lunch, I continue preparing about four more products in the afternoon.

Afternoon 13:00 – Afternoon work begins

I aim to complete the Preparation work by around 3:00 p.m. After that, I carry out what we call “advance preparation work,” which involves preparing raw materials for the next day.

If we prepare materials on the same morning, it can delay the Preparation process. That’s why preparing materials in advance is essential so we can start work smoothly the next day. Advance preparation is crucial for keeping operations efficient and meeting customer delivery deadlines.

After Work

After dinner, I relax by watching videos online. Sometimes, I also go out to eat with coworkers from the same department.

What makes working at Musashi Paint rewarding, and what is the appeal of the job?

The Color Matching Section has many younger employees, and the atmosphere is very positive.
We have good relationships with each other, which makes it a comfortable and enjoyable place to work.

What did you think about a day in the life of a Preparation specialist, who supports the foundation of paint manufacturing in Musashi Paint’s Color Matching Section?

The Preparation process that Mr. Hayakawa is responsible for requires extremely accurate measurements and strict adherence to procedures. His attitude—treating “measuring accurately” and “following procedures correctly” as a given—clearly reflects his sincere and diligent personality. Although we don’t usually think about how paint is made, we hope this feature helped you gain insight into the teamwork behind each product, the sense of fulfillment that comes from manufacturing, and what it’s like to work at Musashi Paint.
