Being Able to Act Positively Without Dwelling on Failure Is Extremely Important

Musashi Paint Holdings Co., Ltd. is Looking for Colleagues to Join Our Team

Please Introduce Yourself

Xin chào!

My name is Yosuke Yamazaki, and I am currently assigned to Musashi Paint Vietnam. I am originally from Yokohama City—what you might call a true “Hamakko.”

Beginning in 2000, I worked in the coating division of a molding and processing manufacturer, where I was responsible for mass-production support and management. In 2018, I joined Musashi Paint as a mid-career hire. After gaining experience in the Manufacturing Department, Production Engineering Department, and the Sales TS (Technical Service) team, I was appointed to Musashi Paint Vietnam in 2025, which brings me to my current role. As for my family, I live with my wife, our eldest daughter who is a university student, and our younger daughter who is in junior high school. The three women in my household are big fans of “Johnny’s” idols and other pop idols, so I often find myself listening to those topics at home. Thanks to that, I’m probably more knowledgeable about idol news than most men.

What Kind of Work Do You Do at Musashi Paint?

I am currently responsible for sales.

Vietnam has a diverse customer base, including Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and local companies. The cultural differences between these countries are reflected in each company’s corporate culture, which makes every day stimulating and full of new discoveries. Because I previously worked for a coating manufacturer, I also provide technical support related to painting as part of our service to customers.

Why Did You Choose Musashi Paint?

When I was working in the coating division of a molding manufacturer, I received a great deal of support from Musashi Paint’s sales and technical staff at the time. Whether it was urgent paint deliveries or respond to quality issues, they always acted quickly, and I strongly felt the positive atmosphere of the company. During my interview as a mid-career applicant, we reminisced about those earlier days, which once again allowed me to experience the appeal of Musashi Paint. That experience ultimately led me to decide to join the company.

What Do You Find Appealing About Musashi Paint?

As a global manufacturer, one of Musashi Paint’s key attractions is its international and multicultural nature. There are many opportunities not only for overseas assignments but also for international business trips. For those who want to challenge themselves globally, Musashi Paint is a very appealing company.

What Is Appealing About Working at Overseas Locations?

By experiencing climates and cultures different from Japan firsthand, you gain personal growth and encounter situations you would never experience in Japan.

People often say, “What is common sense in Japan is not necessarily common sense in the world,” and I truly believe this is a very accurate expression.

In daily life overseas, things that would be unimaginable in Japan happen routinely. The same applies to work—situations that feel “unreasonable” by Japanese standards occur quite naturally. At first, this gap can be stressful, but once you begin to accept it as normal, you start to think, “Working overseas is actually fun!” Vietnam, where I am currently stationed, is still experiencing strong economic growth. Many Chinese and Korean manufacturers are expanding here, and by being exposed to different cultures, your perspective broadens and you naturally develop a more positive mindset. I believe this is one of the great attractions of working at overseas locations.

When Do You Feel a Sense of Fulfillment at Work?

To be honest, I only began working in sales after being assigned to Vietnam. Before that, my roles were mainly technical. When I first learned that I would be doing sales overseas for the first time, I thought Musashi Paint was quite bold to make that decision.

However, once I actually started working in sales, I found it surprisingly enjoyable. Of course, sales involve handling complaints and addressing issues, so not everything is positive. Still, the sense of fulfillment I gain far outweighs the challenges.

One of my strengths in my work is providing technical support related to painting. When I discuss technical matters to help resolve customers’ issues, they often come to rely on me. Continued contact and trust from customers builds my confidence and motivates me even more.

What Do You Value in Your Work?

I believe that being able to move forward positively without dwelling too much on failure is extremely important.

Everyone makes mistakes. What matters is how quickly you identifying the cause and think, “Let’s try this next time.” I believe this mindset is a critical factor in working effectively. I used to be the type of person who would overthink things on my own, but since coming to Vietnam, I honestly don’t have time to dwell on issues. I handle multiple projects simultaneously, and if I get stuck overthinking one issue, it affects the others. Working overseas has helped me develop a much stronger forward-looking attitude than ever before.

What Kind of Colleagues Would You Like to Work With?

If I can work with people who respect each other and share a passion for their work, I believe I can continue to grow as a professional. Personal growth ultimately leads to contributing more to Musashi Paint, so I hope to work with colleagues who inspire and motivate one another.

Comments from Seniors and Colleagues

What Kind of Person Is Mr. Yamazaki?

  • He is always cheerful and positive. I have never seen him discouraged. Even in unfamiliar environments and new responsibilities after his assignment, he approaches his work with a consistently positive attitude. From my position managing the factory, his role in sales is extremely helpful. He promptly shares customer information, allowing us to proceed smoothly with operations. He also provides customers with advice on painting processes. He truly excels as a dual-role professional in Sales and Technical Service.
  • Mr. Yamazaki has a calm, sincere personality—if I had to describe him in one word, it would be “genuine.” Since his time in Technical Service, his attention to detail on-site and his careful communication with customers have stood out. Even in coordinating between the Sales Department and Development Engineering, he has been a highly reliable presence. As his former supervisor in Sales, I relied on him greatly as a bridge between technical and sales teams. At times, he tends to push himself too hard, so I hope he remembers to take breaks and refresh himself occasionally!
  • He has a bright personality and is very hardworking. I have been working with him for about six months, and despite being assigned to sales in Vietnam—a role and country completely new to him—he approaches everything with dedication, a smile, and a positive mindset.

What Do You Expect from Mr. Yamazaki?

  • Even in a new field like Vietnam, Mr. Yamazaki’s meticulous approach and strong on-site awareness will surely be valuable. He is skilled at building trust with local staff and customers, and I expect him to continue playing an important role as a key person at our overseas operations. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you need support!
  • By leveraging his ability to communicate openly with anyone and his experience from previous roles, I hope he will continue building strong relationships with customers in Vietnam through smooth communication both inside and outside the company.

What Do You Admire About Mr. Yamazaki?

  • He never says, “it can’t be done.” Even when faced with problems, he always thinks about how it can be done. At the year-end party held shortly after his assignment, he actively communicated with staff—even drinking more alcohol than he prefers—to build closer relationships. His consistently positive attitude left a strong impression on me. (Although everyone was a bit worried when he disappeared into the restroom for a while.)

Messages to Mr. Yamazaki

  • Sales activities overseas can be extremely challenging, but your willingness to take on challenges with a positive mindset is truly admirable. You may face major obstacles in the future, but with your natural cheerfulness and sincerity, I am confident you will overcome them. Let’s continue working together to support the company’s growth and development.
  • Even in a new overseas environment, I am sure you will naturally build trusting relationships with customers. Please take care of your health and remember to refresh yourself from time to time. We are cheering you on from Japan!
  • Working overseas comes with challenges such as language barriers and cultural differences. Don’t keep everything yourself, let’s occasionally relax together over a drink and relieve some stress.
  • Mr. Yamazaki has a long-standing connection with Musashi Paint from his previous career and is one of the few senior employees with deep coating technology expertise. His personality and technical skills are highly regarded both inside and outside the company, and he has earned strong trust from customers. In January of this year, he took on a new challenge by being assigned to the Hanoi office in Vietnam. Then, in August, he was transferred to the Ho Chi Minh office at short notice to provide additional support. Please continue to take on new initiatives with your positive, fearless attitude toward failure, and enjoy the journey while embracing new challenges.
